Guided Oryx Hunts in New Mexico

Free Range Oryx/Gemsbok in New Mexico
New Mexico is uniquely home to free range Oryx, or Gemsbok. The oryx originates from Southern Africa - specifically Namibia, South Africa and Botswana - but was introduced into the plains of the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico in the mid 1970s. Since then, their population has skyrocketed and oryx have quickly become one of the most popular animals to hunt in NM.
On-Range vs. Off-Range Oryx Hunts in NM
On-Range Oryx Hunts
New Mexico Game & Fish have worked with the White Sands Missile Range in setting up unique hunting opportunities to harvest oryx in this exclusive area, which are referred to as "on range hunts". Tags are extremely difficult to draw, and if you are lucky enough to draw this tag, the state of New Mexico has made it a once-in-a-lifetime tag, meaning you will never be allowed to draw it again (unless you win a governor's tag at auction). On-range hunts at White Sands tend to come with more rules and regulations since it is an active military testing area, so it is best to be accompanied by a qualified outfitter like Radiant R Outfitters. If you are one of the lucky few to draw this tag, we are here to help you make the most of it.
Off-Range Oryx Hunts
We primarily specialize in "off range hunts" for oryx, which are hunts that are conducted outside of the White Sands range. These hunts offer you a much higher chance of acquiring a tag, and come with fewer rules and stressors. Off-range oryx hunts take pace from June through March (of the following year), and you are allowed to pick three different month preferences in your hunt application, which means you can request the three months that are most convenient for you and don't interfere with your other hunting plans. An oryx hunt in NM is a great opportunity to go on an amazing hunt when you would normally be sitting at home during the off season!
What to Expect on Your NM Oryx Hunt
Oryx hunts are conducted in a spot-and-stalk manner, glassing the sandy plains of Southern NM for oryx, then going on a stalk when a shooter animal is spotted. With such vast terrain, you may put down many miles in a 4x4 truck in search of a trophy oryx, and then more miles on foot once you’ve found one. Shot distances can range from 200 to 600+ yards, and you will be hunting in open flat country, so being comfortable shooting from a standing position off of shooting sticks is a must.

Lodging

We will provide recommendations on the nearest town to stay in based upon scouting prior to your arrival.
Wounded Game Policy
In the event a big game animal is wounded, your hunt is over until the animal is found. Animals that are wounded and get away are considered yours. The outfitter and guides will expend maximum effort in an attempt to recover your animal.
