Whether it’s Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep or Desert bighorn sheep, New Mexico can grow them big and consistently produces mature rams across multiple different units. Extensive management of sheep in New Mexico continues to grow sheep populations, creating some of the best Bighorn Sheep hunting in the country!
Desert bighorn sheep primarily reside in the rugged mountains of the southern portions of the state. Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep primarily reside in the northern rugged alpine mountains of the state. Here at Radiant R Outfitters, we have had the opportunity to hunt both species of sheep on multiple occasions and have had great success on all hunts.
Hunting both Desert and Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep is a special occasion that is treated with the utmost respect here at RRO. Bighorn sheep hunting can range from horse back wilderness hunts to backpack day hunting. All bighorn hunts consist of days of scouting before the hunt and looking over countless rams to guarantee that your coveted sheep tag is being filled on the most mature and high-quality animal possible. Bighorn sheep hunts range from early August to early January and can be done with any legal weapon.
Lodging
Lodging on Bighorn sheep hunts is primarily done through a hotel or AirBnB in cities nearby the hunt units, with the select hunts being done from our main lodge. Meals are primarily done at restaurants and on hunts ran from our main lodge, a private cook is hired to provide meals.
